Sketches from "Gifts of the Sultans" MFAH
................Sketches from Gifts of the Sultans, a fantastic show at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Small illustrations from book plates have entire worlds of color and detail contained in 6"x 8" space. When I first saw the giraffe I thought he was wearing a Missoni sweater. I've had dreams with animals that have unusual patterns on their hide or skin, so there was an immediate familiarity and attraction to the image.
