Birds 27 Feb

As much as I love drawing birds, I'm also really enjoying experimenting with the idea of a shape in a square.
As contour drawings, these have topographical implications for me -- something that's been on my mind for a few years now, as shown in these elements of language diagrams.

Capercaillie

Named for its unusual call, the Capercaillie, which means "horse of the woods" in Gaelic, is currently on the endangered species list.  Read more and listen to its call on the Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSBP) website.

Tufted Puffin

I love the articulated parts and construction of the beak.

The eye is almost human.
